Elevate Aviation Launches $1.48 Million Project to Promote Gender Equality and Diversity in the Aviation Industry

November 1, 2024 – EDMONTON – Elevate Aviation, a not-for-profit organization based out of Edmonton, AB, will address the current lack of diversity in the aviation industry through systemic change in aviation organizations.

“This funding marks a significant step in our mission to create a welcoming aviation industry. We are committed to removing barriers and fostering a space where companies and individuals can thrive,” said Kendra Kincade, Chief Executive Officer of Elevate Aviation.

Elevate Aviation’s project, “Aviation’s Path to Gender Equality: Dismantling Barriers for Systemic Change” will occur over 21 months. The project team will scale their previous feminist response and recovery project to advance further women’s equality, safety, retention, and representation in leadership and decision-making roles in the aviation industry.

The project will partner with aviation companies across Canada to promote equality for women and underrepresented groups. Services will include DEI consulting and training, succession planning, organizational support for company structure, recruitment strategy development, and advising on best practices to create safe and inclusive workplaces.

“The positive impact of our collaboration with Elevate Aviation has been remarkable,” said Kyle Hunt, Director of Human Resources, at Winnipeg Airport Authority. “We have witnessed increased engagement, productivity, and employee satisfaction, and recognize the distinct competitive edge that a diverse and inclusive work environment provides. Their expertise in DEI has played a pivotal role in helping us reach this success.”

This project received contribution funding through Women and Gender Equality Canada’s Women’s Program, and Women’s Economic and Leadership Opportunities Fund.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support Elevate Aviation as they continue to open doors for women to lead and shape the future of the aviation industry. Diversity and inclusion in fields like aviation innovation strengthen our economy, benefiting Canadians. For women charting a path in aviation careers, the sky truly is the limit.”

– The Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth
