A career in aviation means extensive training, which can be very costly. Understanding the financial challenge, there are several programs available to help fund your aviation career training. Women who show exceptional potential and need financial assistance throughout the training process may apply for the bursary programs listed below.

The Yvonne Bohme Bursary
Yvonne Bohme was the first female air traffic controller in the Edmonton Alberta Area Control Centre. Retiring after over 26 years, Yvonne was a trailblazer in the industry. This bursary is awarded to assist women in obtaining careers in Air Traffic Services as Tower Air Traffic Controllers, Area Air Traffic Controllers, Flight Service Specialists, and Technicians.
$500 will be awarded to successful applicants.
Eligibility:
- Must be female and residing in Canada
- Must be placed on course for an ATC program
- Must show financial need
- A passion for aviation
- A willingness to work hard
YEG “We’ll Move You” Bursary
Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is Canada’s fifth-busiest airport by passenger traffic and the largest major Canadian airport by land area, contributing to more than $3.2 billion in economic output. Serving over eight million passengers per year and offering non-stop connections to destinations across Canada, the US, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe, EIA is very excited to be partnering with Elevate Aviation to help more women enter into diverse careers in aviation. This bursary will be awarded to women in the Edmonton Metro Region who are interested in entering into a career in aviation. Special consideration will be given to technical or mechanical fields in the industry.
$500 will be awarded to successful applicants.

The Rene Cutforth Bursary
- Must be female and residing in Canada
- Must be enrolled at a flying club or university program equivalent
- Must show financial need
- A passion for aviation
- A willingness to work hard
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Bursary
Women make up only 2% of aircraft maintenance engineers in Canada. We offer this bursary alongside our Mentorship Program in hopes that women who have an interest in this exciting career can receive the training they need and enter into the workforce.
$500 will be awarded to successful applicants.
Eligibility:
- Must be female and residing in Canada
- Must be accepted and enrolled into an accredited AME program
- Must show financial need
- A passion for aviation
- A willingness to work hard
Pilot Bursaries
Pilot Bursaries are designed to assist women who are passionate about flying in completing ground school, PPL, CPL, or any additional rating on a current licence with the intention of having a career as a pilot. Strictly recreational use does not apply.
$500 will be awarded to successful applicants pursuing their PPL, CPL or additional rating in both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
